2019: Here We Go

I wasn’t quite sure whether I should write a 2019 year in review or not because I was all “… who cares?”. But I mentioned it to someone and they agreed with me that no one would care. Then I was like “Er, rude. Everybody cares about me, dafuq.” So here we go.

Work

At the start of this year, I was working as a remote front end developer with a company in the UK but then I had to resume school so I had to part ways with my cushy job which was tres tragique. Luckily, I saved up a lot so that tided my unemployed self over for the rest of the year.

Fast forward some months later, I got a job with a company in Lithuania through the Digital Explorers program. I thought I’d have travelled by now but, apparently, man makes plans and the visa application process makes other plans. So yeah, still waiting for that.

Education

I rounded up with my Systems Engineering degree from the University of Lagos which is more of a relief than anything else.

I pretty much lost all interest I had in school a couple of years ago so I’m just glad I’m done with all of that. And with a final CGPA of 4.36 out of 5, I’d say I finished alright.

Career

Yes, this is different from the Work section, don’t @ me.

This year, I was more invested in the whole front end developer thing. I built a ton of websites, increased my Github contributions and got into conference speaking. I got accepted to speak a whole bunch of international conferences in London, Berlin, New York, Poland, Paris(!!!) but due to issues beyond my control (*eyes green passport*), I couldn’t speak at any this year. I have a lot more conferences coming up in 2020 so yay.

Productivity

I discovered I have a thing for maintaining streaks so I was all about that this year. I also started working on getting the full stack certification certificate from FreeCode Camp which is great.

Personal

I met a couple of awesome individuals this year: Debbie darling, and one who I will not be naming because they don’t need the ego boost. Side from that, I pretty much maintained the same relationships I’ve had.

Then there was personal growth and self-introspection, making memories, experiencing experiences, wearing less and going out more, y’know, the usual.

I was heavy into webtoons and anime this year. Just for fun, here’s my top 3 favourite webtoons and top 3 favourite anime that I read/watched this year (Note: my taste leans towards the slice-of-life and romcom genres).

Top 3 Webtoons:

  1. ReLIFE
  2. Light and Shadow
  3. Spy x Family

Top 3 Anime:

  1. Asobi Asobase
  2. Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii
  3. Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan

I binge-read a lot of novels this year and nearly finished the Hercule Poirot series by Agatha Christie but, alas, I lost my literary hyperfixation at some point.

And that’s about it. Here’s to 2020 and the clarity of vision (hehe geddit, cause 2020 vision) it will bring.
